Cerevo Dashboard Google Account Link Recovery Guide

Thank you for your continued support of Cerevo products and services.

As you may be aware, Cerevo’s Dashboard control panel used with the LiveShell series and LiveWedge devices experienced a failure of the Google Account linkage feature from 10th December 2019 to 8th May 2020.

If you have an existing Dashboard account and already linked your Google Account or broadcast to YouTube Live before December 2019, please follow the Recovery Procedure instructions below*1 *2

*1: The recovery procedure only needs to be performed one time to resolve the issue.
*2: Broadcasting using RTMP mode is possible regardless of this procedure.

Recovery Procedure for Google Account Linkage Feature and YouTube Live Broadcasting via Dashboard

If you meet the following conditions, please perform the recovery procedure below.

  • Have an existing Dashboard account
  • Broadcast to YouTube Live by linking a Google Account from Dashboard before December 2019.

Please perform the procedure before live streaming on any device associated with your account.

If you are using a device that has not been linked with a Google Account or connected for YouTube Live broadcasting, or you are registering a new Dashboard account and using a factory-shipped device, you do not need to perform the recovery procedure.

Recovery Procedure

  1. Log in to Dashboard with your existing account.
  2. Temporarily set the Broadcasting Service of all Live Shell series and LiveWedge devices linked to the account to RTSP server mode*3.

*3: If you cannot change the Broadcasting Service in Dashboard, you will need to re-initialize the device and re-register your Dashboard account. For details see Procedure When Re-linkage Does Not Workbelow.

  3. Click the Settings menu on the top right of Dashboard to open the settings screen.
  4. Select the Account Settings tab and then the Other services settings option.
  5. Click the Disconnect button next to Sign in with Google*4.

*4: If after clicking the Disconnect button you see the below error message, you will need to re-initialize the device and re-register your Dashboard account. For details see Procedure When Re-linkage Does Not Workbelow.

  6. After disconnecting, click the Connect button next to Sign in with Google and follow the onscreen instructions to re-link your Google Account.

  7. After re-linking your Google Account you can stream to YouTube Live using the standard procedures. For details on YouTube Live broadcasting settings, see the online manual.

If Re-linking Does Not Work

If after trying the above recovery procedure, you experience any of the below issues, you will need to re-initialize the device and re-register your Dashboard account. For details see Procedure When Re-linkage Does Not Work.

  • When performing the recovery procedure, you cannot change the Broadcast Service of any LiveShell series or LiveWedge devices to anything other than YouTube Live.
  • When performing the recovery procedure, disconnecting your Google Account results in an error message being displayed.

Procedure When Re-linkage Does Not Work

  1. Log in to Dashboard with your existing account.
  2. Click the Settings menu on the top right of Dashboard to open the settings screen.
  3. Select the Account Settings tab and then the Delete account option. Please note after deleting your account the following will occur*5:
    • All the device information linked to the Dashboard account will be deleted.
    • You will need to re-initialize the device associated with your account separately.
    • All information of external services linked to your account will be deleted.
    • All Dashboard settings (custom settings, captions, images, etc.) will be deleted.
*5: The information associated with the deleted Dashboard account cannot be transferred to a new Dashboard account. If have connected a LiveShell series device with your account in the past, you will not be able to connect that device to the deleted account again.

  4. The following dialog will be displayed. Select OK to permanently delete the Dashboard account. (Please note that the deleted Dashboard account information cannot be recovered under any circumstances).

  5. Create a new account again from the Dashboard new account registration page. You can re-register with the same email address as the deleted account.

Cerevo Dashboard Resolution of Google Account Linkage Failure Issue

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to users of our live streaming products due to the Dashboard Google Account linkage failure issue that occurred on December 10, 2019. However, we are pleased to report that the issue has now been resolved.

It is now again possible to log in and stream via YouTube Live using the Google Account linkage feature in Dashboard. For the recovery procedure, please refer to the Cerevo Dashboard Google Account Link Recovery Guide.

A detailed report of the issue and actions taken is as follows.

Issue Description

  • Can’t log in to Dashboard with a Google Account
  • Can’t log in to YouTube Live when linking a new Google Account from Dashboard

Effected Devices

  • LiveShell 2
  • LiveShell PRO
  • LiveShell X
  • LiveWedge

Issue First Occurred

10th December 2019 (JST)

Resolution Date

8th May 2020, 10:00am (JST)

Technical Details

In Dashboard, the Google Account linkage feature uses an API for logging into a user’s Google Account and connecting with YouTube Live, this API link had not been updated to conform to new guidelines set by Google and subsequently was disabled.

Resolution and Future Actions

In order for Dashboard to again use the API for logging into a user’s Google Account and connecting with YouTube Live, the API has been updated to conform to Google’s new guidelines. As every new API link has to be reviewed by Google before being approved for use this resulted in the issue taking considerable time to be resolved. We recognize that we should have been more proactive in updating the API link before it was disabled. We take this situation seriously and are reviewing our management and operation systems to ensure this does not happen again.

Together with the actions taken after the Dashboard connection failure that occurred in February 2020, we will further strengthen the maintenance and operation of Dashboard and related products for the continuous stable operation of our services.

Once again we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to our users as a result of this issue.

For any additional questions, please contact the Cerevo Customer Support team at – support-global@cerevo.com.

Viewership of 24-hour live camera in Akihabara, Japan increases tenfold during the last weekend of March

The number of viewers of the Akihabara Live Camera, a 24-hour-a-day live stream of the Chuo-dori intersection in Akihabara, Japan, increased tenfold on the weekend beginning March 28th, 2020 (JST).

Akihabara live camera YouTube Live version
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEdekqkoW6g

Through the cooperation of Aisan Electric Co., Ltd., the Akihabara Live Camera streams live footage of Akihabara’s Chuo-dori intersection in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. The stream airs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year using LiveShell X, a live streaming device developed by Cerevo. It can be viewed for free by anyone on YouTube.

Normally, the stream receives 1,000 to 5,000 views a day. On March 28th, it received over 67,000 views.

Due to the spread of COVID-19, citizens of Tokyo were asked to refrain from leaving their home during the weekend. Additionally, out-of-season snowfall was observed. It appears that these factors increased people’s interest in what was happening outside, leading to a tenfold increase in viewership.
