Cerevo at CES 2020 – Exhibiting Examples of Products Developed Utilizing the IoT Platform Afero
Cerevo Inc., an Internet connected consumer electronics manufacturer based in Tokyo, Japan, has developed products using the IoT platform provided by Afero, with whom Cerevo announced the first Advanced Tier Integration Partnership focusing on start-up support and contract/joint development in December 2019. Some of the examples of these products will be exhibited at CES 2020.
Start-up Support Business
“TiNK” Lock Device for tsumug, inc. Cerevo has been playing a major role in developing both hardware and the service for tsumug’s TiNK, a lock device, since April 2018. Afero technology was able to bring stable service to TiNK, ranging from normal circumstances to emergency situations, enabling reliable unlocking. tsumug’s TiNK lock is the very first product Cerevo and Afero began working on together as a result of tsumug utilizing Afero for the device. The latest model of TiNK will be exhibited for reference at CES 2020.
Contract/Joint Development
Cashless Payment Terminal Device for Japan Digital Design, Inc. Cerevo has developed the prototype for a cashless payment terminal device for Japan Digital Design. By communicating with the device using a dedicated App that has been downloaded onto a smartphone, a QR code that can only be used for payment settlements on that smartphone is generated. This unique and safe payment system through secure connections came to reality by using Afero technology. The prototype device will be exhibited at CES 2020.
Cashless Fully-Automated Washer and Dryer for X-tech Management, Ltd. With X-tech Management, Ltd., Cerevo has developed a prototype from the idea of a student at Kyoto University of Art and Design for a “cashless washer and dryer service for vacation rentals.” An existing coin-operated fully-automated washer and dryer was customized after receiving permission from the manufacturer and using Afero for communication. The control board, which has communication features that support electronic payment systems, will be exhibited for reference at CES 2020.
With these product development achievements Cerevo is looking forward to working closer together with Afero as the first Advanced Tier Integration Partner.

Cerevo Launches Two Optional Products that Enable its Universal Tally Lamp System FlexTally to be Compatible with Roland and Other Video Switchers
Cerevo Inc., an Internet connected consumer electronics manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, announces two optional products for use with FlexTally. These are “GPIO Cable for FlexTally”, which enables the general-purpose wireless tally lamp system FlexTally to be compatible with Roland and other video switchers, and “USB-GPIO Converter for FlexTally”, a converter used with video switchers capable of outputting tally signals via USB. The GPIO Cable for FlexTally (1.5m) will be on sale at the Cerevo Official Store for US$199.00 and the USB-GPIO Converter for FlexTally for US$299.00.
The GPIO Cable for FlexTally is a dedicated cable that makes it easier to connect FlexTally to GPIO-compatible video switchers. Our store offers cables compatible with six types of switchers from four companies: Roland, Sony, NewTek and Panasonic.*1 For additional cable lengths and device compatibility information, please contact us for more details.*2
FlexTally and GPIO Cable for FlexTally
USB-GPIO Converter for FlexTally is a converter for using FlexTally with video switchers capable of outputting tally signals via USB. FlexTally supports video switchers via Ethernet, GPIO, and software connections, and now can also make use of USB connections by using this product. The USB-GPIO Converter for FlexTally is currently confirmed to work with three models: Roland V-1HD/V-1 SDI and Lumantek ez-Pro VS4.
FlexTally connected to a V1-HD via USB-GPIO Converter for FlexTally
USB-GPIO Converter for FlexTally allows FlexTally to be used with a compatible video switcher by connecting the Converter’s Type A USB port to the target video switcher via a USB cable, and its GPIO cable to FlexTally’s GPIO port. Connecting it to a tablet*3 using the included micro USB cable also lets you use video switchers such as the V-1HD Remote and externally operated apps together at the same time. Enabling expansion without sacrificing the convenience of app-based video switchers.
Connecting to USB-GPIO Converter for FlexTally while using V-1HD Remote
Many simple and multifunctional video switchers have become widespread in recent years, increasing the demand for tally lamp systems. FlexTally is currently being sold worldwide in countries such as Japan, the United States, Germany, South Korea, Thailand, and across Europe, and is widely used both personally and professionally.
In receiving our users’ requests, we’ve decided to focus on providing and developing features that satisfy their needs. As a result of this, we’ve postponed the expansion of the number of simultaneously-useable lamps*4, in favor of developing and launching these optional products. We are continuing to expand our services and features to further the use of Cerevo products.

“FlexTally”, a General-Purpose Wireless Tally Lamp System, is Now Compatible with The Software Switcher “vMix” Wider use is now possible with both hardware and software switchers
Cerevo Inc., an Internet connected consumer electronics manufacturer based in Tokyo, Japan, has released new firmware on July 24th for the general-purpose wireless tally lamp system “FlexTally” which will now be compatible with the software video switcher “vMix”, made by StudioCoast Pty Ltd. (Headquarters: Australia)
FlexTally is a tally lamp system that is shipped as one station unit (base unit) for connecting to a video switcher and four lamp units (portable units) for connecting to cameras. When multiple cameras are used to shoot recording of programs or live streaming, the FlexTally lamp automatically turns on whenever a switching command is detected from the switcher so the people on air can easily identify which camera is being used.
Since its launch, FlexTally has been globally popular among professionals and private users alike because of the ease and convenience to adopt and operate it. At the world’s largest show for media, entertainment and broadcast technology “NAB Show 2019” held in April 2019, we demonstrated switching that was compatible with “vMix”, and now this has been officially released. Using the latest firmware update, all FlexTally units will be compatible with “vMix”, enabling more options to achieve a professional video switching environment.
vMix
Currently, there are 15 types of switchers that have been checked for operability and compatibility with FlexTally, including Cerevo’s own switcher with live streaming functions, LiveWedge. FlexTally is compatible with other brands switchers*1 such as Blackmagic Design’s ATEM series, NewTek’s TriCaster series, as well as other switchers that support GPIO-capable connections. In becoming compatible with “vMix”, a broader use with either hardware or software switchers is now possible.
Using FlexTally with vMix
To use vMix, please update the firmware on your station unit. In addition, if you are using in Ethernet mode, please install version 1.1.0 of the FlexTally Utility application. If you do not use vMix, there is no need to install the firmware update or the newest PC application. For details on usage, please check the online manual.
*1 To connect to your video switcher, you need to set up using either dedicated software provided by Cerevo or a specifically configured cable for GPIO connection.
The cable should be created based on the tally output specifications of the video switcher you are using and FlexTally’s tally input specifications.
Specifications of the tally output may be different for each brand and switcher model.
Supported OS for the dedicated software is Windows 10/8.1/7, Mac OS X is scheduled to be supported in the future.
*2 Specifications for the US/EU product version. The version for Japan uses the 315MHz band for connectivity.
*3 Up to 32 lamps will be supported in a future firmware update. 8 lamps can be controlled when connected via GPIO connection to your switcher.
